Various Ways to Read
Those who opt not to engage in reading have fewer excuses nowadays, given the longer list of available options. While reading may not be everyone's cup of tea, those pressed for time and unable to pick up a physical book can broaden their literary horizons through apps like Libby and Audible.
Individual reading preferences vary, with my personal personal preference bing physical books. Carver on the other hand, enjoys audio books. Despite my personal preference, I've found it necessary to explore alternative reading methods for various reasons, each offering its own set of advantages.
Physical Books
Books will forever hold a special place in my heart. Growing up in a generation filled with book fairs, bookstore visits, and a grandmother with a love for reading, I have always been captivated by the charm of a good book. The tactile experience of flipping through pages, whether poolside or on the sofa, evokes a true sense of nostalgia and joy for me.
Digital Books (Kindle, Nook, etc)
While physical books remain my favorite, exploring digital books has proven worthwhile. Not only are digital books often more cost-effective, but they also provide instant accessibility. Although e-readers such as Kindles and tablets are great, they aren’t necessary. With a smartphone (which I’m willing to bet everyone has), you can easily download a book. The convenience of on-demand availability after download contrasts with the potential wait associated with ordering physical books, making digital options particularly appealing. Those that live near a nice bookstore won’t struggle with this issue as much, but those like me that live in a small town can find it a struggle waiting for books to be delivered. Lastly, budget-conscious readers can benefit from lower costs or subscription plans like Kindle Unlimited.
Audio Books (Audible, Libby, etc)
Due to life in general, I've recently embraced audio books for their versatility. Unlike the focused commitment required for digital or physical reading, audio books allow multitasking. Whether walking the dog, working, completing household chores, embarking on a road trip, or simply reclining on the couch with closed eyes, audio books seamlessly integrate into various activities. Sometimes if I’m really into a book that I’m reading digitally or physically, I’ll even download the audio book so I can continue on with it when I can’t sit down and read.
